Tips for Storing and Caring for Your Solid Gold and Silver Jewellery

Solid gold and silver jewellery can last a lifetime when properly stored and cared for. However, without proper care, your jewellery can easily tarnish, scratch, or even break. To help you keep your jewellery in top condition, I've put together a few tips for storing and caring for your solid gold and silver jewellery.

Store your jewellery properly:  Always keep your gold and silver jewellery in a clean and dry place, away from moisture, direct sunlight, and other jewellery pieces. You can store your jewellery in a jewellery box, a soft pouch, or a dedicated drawer to keep it safe from scratches or tangling.

Clean your jewellery regularly: To clean your jewellery, you can start by mixing a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water. Then, use a soft-bristled brush, such as a toothbrush, to gently scrub your jewellery, paying attention to any hard-to-reach areas. Rinse the jewellery thoroughly with clean water and dry it with a soft cloth. It's important to clean your jewellery regularly to maintain its shine and prevent any tarnishing or discoloration.

Avoid wearing your jewellery in water: It is generally not recommended to wear gold and silver jewellery in water. Exposure to water, especially chlorinated or saltwater, can cause the jewellery to tarnish or become discoloured. Water can also damage any gemstones or pearls that may be set in the jewellery. In addition, water can cause the jewellery to become slippery and increase the risk of the jewellery slipping off and getting lost. Therefore, it is best to remove gold and silver jewellery before swimming, showering, or washing dishes. If the jewellery does get wet, it's important to dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth before storing it to prevent any damage.

Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals: Chemicals such as perfume, hairspray, or cleaning products can damage the surface of your jewellery, causing it to tarnish or lose its shine. Avoid wearing your jewellery when using these products, or make sure to apply them before putting on your jewellery.

Solid gold and silver jewellery can last a lifetime when properly stored and cared for. By following these simple tips, you can keep your jewellery in top condition and enjoy wearing it for years to come.
